Government says Thursday, August 13, 2026, is a public holiday to allow eligible citizens to exercise their constitutional right to vote in the General Election.
According to a statement issued to the media by Secretary to the Cabinet PATRICK KANGWA, the public holiday is in accordance with Article 56(2) of the Constitution of Zambia.
Mr. KANGWA says the holiday applies to both the public and private sectors, and all employers are expected to observe it.
He says employers should give eligible employees an opportunity to vote, while institutions providing essential services should make arrangements to maintain uninterrupted operations and allow their employees to cast their ballots.
Mr. KANGWA has advised employees who need to travel before polling day to make the necessary arrangements with their employers, including applying for leave where required.
He says only Thursday, August 13, 2026, is a public holiday.
Mr. KANGWA has called on employers in both the public and private sectors to comply with the provision and facilitate the orderly participation of their employees in the voting exercise.
